Guide for Families
Miracles for Life Worldwide understands the feelings of pain and grief that comes
with organ donation. Some organ donation can be given to a friend or family without
a loss of a life, while other organ donations, unfortunately, come at the end of a
life.
In your time of loss, you are receiving a lot of information and may need to make
an important decision about organ and tissue donation. Each individual has the right
to decide to donate or your loved one may have expressed their desire
directly or indirectly in advance.
As one parent put it, we overheard our daughter talking to a friend stating "When
I die, I'll give my lungs to a boy so he can run without gasping for air. Then I
will give my heart to a girl so she can live and when she gets old then she will
donate an organ and I will live on forever." Shortly after this conversation the
daughter died. While the family grieved over their loss, they found comfort knowing
her lungs were donated to a boy and her heart to a girl.
